Visualizing Retirement

I've been desiring to retire early for about a couple of years now.    I've imagined myself not having to go through the daily grind--waking up to an alarm clock, eating a quick but unhealthy breakfast, then rushing out to drive to work and slog through traffic.    The daily grind also means not having enough time spent with my wife and kid, no time to breeze through a few pages of the book I am currently reading and no time to exercise.   In my vision of retirement, I get to have all these.

In my mind, retirement has me living in our retirement home, farther away from the city than where we are now.   My typical retirement morning has me waking up naturally, with no alarm, one eye opening to glimpse the morning sun peeking though my curtains.  I stretch and at an absolute leisurely pace, walk over to the CR and complete my ablutions.    I then saunter down and prepare a healthy breakfast of eggs, bacon, bread, fruits and coffee....lotsa coffee.   I open up my ipad and read thru my CNN, BBC and Rappler news apps, getting caught up on the latest news and ingesting mindless entertainment news (because I can, now).

After finishing my hour long breakfast, I then take some time to play with my daughter--with playtime being anything from taking a walk to the playground or painting by numbers.

After that, I'll either pack up and go to the gym, or set up my home TRX to do some quick circuit training.    I'll then take my lunch and maybe a short nap afterwards.  I'll then maybe head to the beach and dive.   A wall dive in one of Cebu's many many dive spots comes to mind.   Once up, I then have a Corona or two before heading home.

I then cap off the day with a couple's massage, either a full body massage or a great footsie at any of the cheap spas in Cebu with my wife.

THAT is what my retirement day will look like.   Definitely worth saving up for, in my opinion.

What's your retirement day look like?

This is the story of my journey towards financial  independence.    My coming decade and a half of blood, sweat and tears in order to break free of the  yoke of having to live from paycheck to paycheck toiling away for 40, 50, nay  60! hours a week just to pay the bills and take vacations with the family.   The next 15 years will be fraught
with many, many financial decisions of which I plan to navigate thru the best way I can and and at the same time, slice off a sizeable percentage of my income towards saving for retirement.
I am Jun Anatalio, a 36 year old call center professional that
has decided to take his fate into his own hands and venture to retire in 15  years from today.  My hope is that  whoever gets to read this can share in the pain and joy of becoming a millionaire the slow and difficult way.
PS.  I am not affiliated with any Financial organization (other than being a customer).
